Expansion plans are going full steam ahead this fall for many Longmont companies, as several key industry leaders are relocating to larger sites, hoping to grow their business – and, in some cases, their employee recruitment.

One company with big expansion plans is Amgen Inc. The California-based biotech and pharmaceutical company has a large campus in Longmont, and it’s going to get bigger.

But according to Debbi Ford, senior manager of corporate communications, it’s just too soon to say exactly what these plans will entail.

“We just don’t know these things, yet. The details are pending.” Ford said. She confirmed that Amgen’s expansion plans include a new facility adjacent to its existing building, which currently occupies 72 acres of Amgen’s 230-acre site at the corner of Nelson and Airport roads in west Longmont. The company anticipates breaking ground on the building by the end of 2007.

Several local companies already are beginning the process of relocation. The Spitfire Group, which specializes in business and technology consulting, is breaking ground on a site located along Stagecoach Road and Highway 119 at the east end of Longmont in the Milky Way Business Park.

According to Chief Executive Mark Richtermeyer, an expansion plan has been in the works for the company ever since opening its first Longmont location in May 2004….

Meanwhile, BluePrint Robotics is moving from its location in Gunbarrel, where it first opened in 2003, to an existing building in Longmont. The robotics integrator company has taken a new lease at 1801 Ironhorse Drive, where the company will have at least twice as much space, according to Project Manager Al Ritt.

“This particular building (in Gunbarrel) didn’t have enough space for us,” he said. “We’ve gotten several jobs that are going to be taking up a lot more floor space iin our manufacturing area. “ Right now, the company is operating out of both locations, but plans are for the relocation to be completed by the end of September.

For BluePrint Robotics, a Longmont-based headquarters makes good business sense. “Our clients are spread worldwide, but Longmont is an area where everyone in the company is fairly centrally located,” Ritt said. “We’ve all worked in the industry for 20 years or so, and Longmont was where we all first started working together.”
